5 fabulous homemade scrub recipes

Think about how good the skin feels after a good exfoliation. It feels fresh, alive and softer. Exfoliating is essential for a good and effective skin care regime. It removes build up dirt and dead cells, allowing fresh cells to the top. It evens skin tone, and helps nutritious skincare products penetrate the skin the deeper. It stimulates the lymphatic drainage for internal cleansing and stimulation of oxygen-rich blood to feed and nourish the skin's surface and it helps collagen production. Putting an exfoliator together is easier than you might think, so although we recommend you use regularly an exfoliator from a trusted ( and indie) supplier, we have put together a list of 5 fabulous and easy exfoliator recipes you can create at home. For those days you are feeling crafty and creative.   1. Honey and sugar Revive dry and dull skin with this very simple exfoliator. Raw honey is known to have antibacterial properties, being great at calming irritated skin. It is also an humectant, which has the natural ability to hold onto water making it a great hydrator. Sugar is an excellent exfoliator,  removing dead cells and allowing the renewed skin to glow. Lemon juice is full of antioxidants and the scent will invigorate you. A sprinkle of cinnamon will just make it smell delicious Ingredients: 1 cup of sugar ( preferably brown, but white will also work)  1 lemon 1/3 cup of raw honey sprinkle of cinnamon  Pour the sugar in a bowl, followed by the juice of one lemon and stir well. Add the honey and mix until it has been assimilated. Keep in an air tight container and store in the fridge for up to 3 days 2. Pink Himalayan salts and fig Figs are beautiful, delicious and full of vitamin A and beta-carotene, which helps hydrate your skin as well as slow down signs of aging. Pink Himalayan salts are excellent for exfoliating and detoxifying skin. This is an truly efficient and gorgeous recipe. Ingredients: 3 figs ( depending on the size) 2 tbsp. of Himalayan salts 1/2 lime Cut the figs in half and remove the skin. Put the fig's flesh in a bowl, add the line juice and zest the skin, adding a sprinkle to the mixture. Add the Himalayan salts and mix until you get a loose paste. If needed, add lime juice to moisture. Store in a air tight container in the fridge and use within three days 3. Olive oil and coffee One of the simplest scrubs and one of our favourites. It combines the moisturising and nourishing power of olive oil, and the natural scrubbing effect of coffee beans. It will leave your skin feeling fresh and nourished. If you have acne prone skin, stay clear of this scrub Ingredients: 3 tbsp. of coffee grounds 2 tbsp. of olive oil Pour the coffee grounds in a bowl and slowly add the olive oil, up to a maximum of 2 tbsp. Stir as you pour the oil until it makes a dark paste 4. Detoxing spirulina  To relieve tired muscles and eliminate toxins, mix mineral rich salts, and antioxidant rich spirulina. This beautiful exfoliator will cleanse, moisturise and nourish your skin.  Ingredients: 1 tsp. of spirulina powder 1/2 cup fine sea salt 1/2 cup epsom salt 1/4 cup olive oil 1 tbsp. of clay ( add to increase the cleansing effect, but not essential) Mix well all your ingredients with a spoon and pour in an air tight container ( kilner jar or equivalent). Keep for up to 2 months, depending on the storing conditions 5. Oats and yogurt It looks like the recipe for a nutritious breakfast, and it will help remove blackheads, gently exfoliating the skin. 1 tbsp. of oats 1 tsp. of honey 2 tbsp. of yogurt (which contains complexion-brightening lactic acid). Mix the oats and yogurt in a bowl and add the honey. Store in a airtight container and keep in the fridge for a maximum of 3 days Try these recipes at home and let us know which one is your favourite
